Assessments and Evaluations
How do you know what your child already knows and still needs to know? Phonics and phonemic awareness assessments can answer all of those questions so we can get a running start on the road to reading. My thorough written evaluation will guide you through the next steps.
Targeted Instruction
Based on the assessments, I will able to target very specific skills that your child needs to be a successful reader.
Games, Activities, Resources
Learning to read is hard work, but it can be fun! I can provide a library of games, activities, and resources for each skill.
Teacher Collaboration
Does your classroom reflect the science of reading? The change from whole-language to structured literacy can be overwhelming. Let's reorganize old leveled libraries into new areas of content, and switch your word wall into a sound wall! Wondering how to differentiate instruction for six different levels of learning in your class? How to collaborate with colleagues to create flexible grouping to support SoR instruction? Which decodables support your curriculum? I'll bring the materials, you take a deep breath. You don't have to do it alone.
School Collaboration
I train, provide resources, and model how to implement explicit instruction in your school or district, as well as help your teacher teams collaborate to work smarter, not harder. This can include reworking your school schedule (especially in K-5) to provide time for individualized testing and instruction. I also help build shared literacy resource rooms that support reading at all levels: with wholly decodable texts and games based on phonemic awareness skills, and reimagined book organization that supports content. comprehension and vocabulary acquisition.
Writing Adventures
Research shows that both reading and writing should be taught together; they share the same pool of knowledge and skills, like vocabulary, content understanding, and sound-symbol relationships. Diving in is fun!
